Halstead Dragons (30) vs. Garden Plain Owls (28)

GARDEN PLAIN - A Football Battle of TWO Undefeated 7-0 Teams brought fans from two small Kansas communities together to witness one of the best football games in recent times!  The common remark from patrons on both sides “that was a great game…….” as they walked out of the stadium.

Halstead lead at half 16 to 14. The battle continued exchanging drives and touch downs. Halstead trailed by 4 points and was moving the ball. This critical offensive drive was stopped by the Owls when Eli McKee ran a quarterback sneak on 4th down and was short by an inch. The Dragon turnover on downs gave Garden Plain the ball on their 6 yard line with 7:32 remaining in the game. The Dragons defense came alive stopping the Owls and forcing them to punt after 3 plays, this give Halstead good offensive position on the Owls 36 yard line.

The Dragons got the ball back with 5:53 remaining in the game as the offense drove down in 9 plays. Layke Heimerman made the 4 yard touchdown with 1:34 on the clock. Halstead 30 - Garden Plain 28. The Dragons had a successful two point conversion ran by Eli McKee, Halstead 32 - Garden Plain 28.

Garden Plain received the kick ending up on their 35 yard line. It took three passes for the Owls to move to the Dragon 30 yard line with 1:27 remaining on the clock.  The Owls took to the air throwing deep, but the defensive play by Casey Kohr, a beautiful interception, seal the win for the Dragons as Halstead kneeled the 1:27 off the clock.

The Dragons, 8-0 win the Class 3A District 11 title.
