It was a battle, there is no easy win at The Rupp, exclaimed coach Jeff Buchanan, head basketball coach for the Andale Indians. Moundridge has a great team and they pressured us to play our best, exclaimed coach Buchanan.

Moundridge first loss of the season was curtailed by the Indians that were playing outstanding Saturday night. We talked about what we had to do at half time to overcome our disadvantage in play, said coach Vance Unrau, coach of the Mondridge Wildcats. We knew we were losing the battle inside, not getting the rebounds. Andale had 4 inches of height on any of our players and the inside play was tough. Trey would be double teamed every time he had the ball, so getting the ball to our open guy was essential, said Unrau. Trey Unrau was held to 4 points the first half. I told the kids to start attacking form the outside, we have to change to stay in the game.

Andale came out the second half to learn that the Wildcats indeed had changed their attack. The Wildcats come out with an 11-3 run at the beginning of the second half the get with in 4 points of tying the game.

Coach Unrau gave Andale credit. “I think they’re definitely one of the best well-coached teams that had us scouted that we’ve faced all year,” Unrau said. “They definitely do their homework, and that’s what the key was.”

Other Wildcat players stepped up, Cooper Wedel had 9 big points the first half, along with the other players kept then in the game. In second half, Moundridge came out shooting from the outside hoping to open the inside play, but Andale made the change up, shutting down  the Wildcats half time change of attack.

Leading 48-43 after Wedel began the fourth quarter with a basket, Andale quickly extended its advantage to 13 behind eight points from Kihle and two from Bergkamp. Unrau did his best to rally Moundridge by scoring 14 points in the final quarter, including four 3-pointers, but the Wildcats couldn’t get any closer than 61-54 at the 2:08 mark.
Unrau finished with 28 points and ended the tournament at 106. Unrau’s three-game performance led to him being named the MVP. Cooper Wedel  had a great game with 11 points and made the all Academic Team for the 2012 Rupp.
Kihle was the top scorer for Andale with 20 points, including two 3-pointers in the Indians’ fourth-quarter surge.

3rd Place Garden Plain 51, Cheney 43
The Owls held the Cardinals to six points in the third quarter while scoring 14 to grab the lead and eventually prevail.
Garden Plain (6-7) overcame a halftime deficit with the third-quarter surge and took a 35-30 lead going into the final eight minutes. Josh Becker led the Owls with 15 points and Nick Mannebach was close behind at 13.
Gabe Schomacker led the way for Cheney (7-6) again as he scored 17 points. The junior was the Cardinals’ top scorer twice in the tournament and he tallied 43 points total. Gage Scheer added 12 points against the Owls.
5th Place Haven 50, Rose Hill 45
The Wildcats scored 30 points in the second half to pull out a victory over the Rockets and leave as consolation champions.
Luke Johnson paved the way for Haven (5-8) with 13 points and Zach Hendrixson had nine.
Rose Hill (4-8) was led in scoring by seniors Kyle Anderson and Luke Willson, who posted 10 points apiece.
7th Place  Douglass 55, Halstead 51
The Bulldogs used an 18-point fourth quarter to rally past the Halstead and finish the tournament with a win.
Douglass (8-5) trailed 39-37 heading into the fourth quarter, but it ended strongly by outscoring Halstead by six. Ronnie Sobanek led the Bulldogs with 22 points and Cody Holthaus added 10.
Blake Bohling and Andrew Pjesky each scored 13 points for Halstead (5-8), which went winless at its home tournament. Devan Herb chipped in 12 points for the Dragons.
