A Yearly Tradition... Santa Visits

On Saturday, December12th, 2015 the Halstead Chamber hosted the Annual Community Christmas Jingle. The cold and dreary weather was not the ideal setting for the parade sponsored by Hutchinson Regional Medical Center but people came from as far away as the North Pole to share in the Joy of the Season. The resounding merriment of the jolly man could be heard loud and clear as Santa rode down Main St on a float created by the First Mennonite Church. Only two floats were entered this year; second place went to Designs by John winning $60.00 and first place went to the First Mennonite Church of Halstead winning $100.00.
The parade ended at the Fire Station and Santa prepared for the children. As families filled the Fire Station they were treated to fresh popcorn from the Chamber Board, Hot Chocolate from Crossroads Church, Cookies from Sacred Heart Church, Candy Canes & Massages from Harmonious You, Beautiful music sung by the HHS Bel Canto Choir led by Claire Clifford, Treat bags from Martin Machine & Welding, and finally the highly anticipated face to face visit with Santa along with pictures provided by Craig Sooter with Biggest Little City Media. Beautiful hand made crafts created by Kathy Witt's class at HHS were a large part of the raffle prizes. Each handmade item was paired with donations from local Chamber Members; Central National Bank, Mark's Meats, Sheer Image, Halstead Bank, Golden Harvest, The Old Hardware Store, and a personal donation from Susan Davidson.
The most conveted of the raffle prizes is always the handmade Cedar Chest made and donated each year by John Will; "I would love to see everyone in town win one at some point over the years," said Will. He loves being involved in the event. His favorite part of the event is when the winner is announced and the recipients are as excited about winning the chest as he is about giving the gift. This year Kaden Lopez won the cedar chest. Lopez was there with his family and his mom said she could hear him behind her as the drawing was taking place, "Say Kaden," with his fingers crossed- well it worked and his excitement was apparent as he and his mom loaded the cedar chest into their vehicle. The second grand prize is a personal visit from Santa to read Twas the Night Before Christmas. Santa was feeling generous this year so he gave away two visits this year, The Soward family was the first recipient and the Watkins family won the second drawing.
Halstead Fire StationHalstead Fire StationNext years event will be similar but the Chamber is hoping for more parade entries and more community involvement in the event. "There will always be changes and adjustments on these type of events as we try to make it convenient and fun for everyone, which can be trying at times, but we do the best we can and always hope for a great turn out," said Shelly Watkins who currently serves as the Halstead Chamber of Commerce Secretary/Treasurer and Event Coordinator.
All in all it was an exciting evening filled with Good Will, Joy, and Community and the Chamber looks forward to what the next year will bring. Santa pictures are now on display at the Halstead Market and available for pick up at the Halstead Market.
Thank you Halstead for supporting your local Chamber and Merry Christmas!
